– Over 95% fatal cases were elderly aged 60 years or above; 49% were residential care home residents; 91% were with known chronic diseases
– Receiving 3 doses of any vaccines greatly reduces death risk especially in the older age group

HA Chief Executive visits public hospitals to observe situation during holidays

The Hospital Authority (HA) Chief Executive, Dr Tony Ko paid a visit on December 27 to the accident and emergency (A&E) departments and medical wards of United Christian Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital to understand from frontline staff the service demand and manpower arrangements during the extended Christmas holidays. He expressed gratitude for the frontline staff’s hard work and dedication. Dr Ko said that public hospitals are facing dual challenges posed by COVID-19 as well as the winter service surge, which contributed to increasing attendance in the A&E departments and admissions at public hospitals for a certain period.

Director of Civil Engineering and Development undergoing home quarantine

A spokesman for the Civil Engineering and Development Department said that the Director of Civil Engineering and Development, Mr Michael Fong, is undergoing home quarantine in accordance with the guidelines of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health as a family member in his household has tested positive for COVID-19. Mr Fong will work from home during the quarantine period.
